How Dogs Help Cancer Patients During Treatment

Awhile back my sister (who is one of the biggest dog lovers I know – mom of 3 Labs) strongly suggested that I do a story about how dogs are now increasingly present in the treatment centers that are on the cutting edge of recovery strategy. Some very special and loving dogs have been welcomed into cancer treatment areas to help warm the hearts of the patients receiving treatment. The result is win-win. A super sweet dog (or puppy) gets lots of love and appreciation and a patient can “escape” from the doldrums of treatment with much reduced anxiety. Hopefully more treatment centers will realize how our furry friends can be the sweetest form of alternative therapy. It is clear that it is our mental outlook and demeanor that dramatically influence treatment success and recovery. And dogs just make us happy!
