Can Dogs Really Smell Cancer?

As if we really needed more reasons to treasure “man’s best friend,” the reality that a canine’s sense of smell can help improve cancer survival is amazing. This is not breaking news, since these research studies have been circulating for awhile. However, it is increasingly impressive how this technology is progressing. Researchers are now able to replicate the sensitivity of canine smell to detect cancer’s unique “smell” profile. This creates the potential for a broad and consistent application of this innovative detection technology. Here is a really cool CBS News video that shows the research in progress.
